DevEx payout fees and FX: compare the amount that lands
The cheapest payout route is the one that delivers the most usable money to the correct legal payee with acceptable timing and records. Method availability and exact pricing depend on country, currency, account, and the current DevEx portal. Use this method with the [short cash-out guide](/en/resources/roblox-cashout-simple); verify live terms before each material payout.
Focused deep dive
Separate fixed, percentage, and exchange-rate costs
Start with gross DevEx USD after any Roblox-calculated U.S. withholding. Subtract the payment-method transaction fee, intermediary and receiving-bank fees, then apply the actual quoted FX rate. Compare it with a same-minute reference rate to make the hidden conversion spread visible. A “zero transfer fee” route can still be expensive through FX; a fixed wire fee can be efficient on a large payout.
Roblox’s current Tipalti support page says available methods vary by residence and may include ACH, eCheck, PayPal, checks, and wire. It publishes PayPal examples and an FX range, but also says fees can change and the DevEx account shows the applicable terms. Processing times are estimates and bank arrival adds another operational variable. Treat the portal quote as the current decision input.
Worked example: two routes for $3,800
Route A charges a hypothetical $5 fixed fee and converts at 0.918 EUR per USD. Route B charges no fixed fee but converts at 0.895. Gross outputs are (3,800 − 5) × 0.918 = €3,483.81 for A and 3,800 × 0.895 = €3,401.00 for B. The “free” route delivers €82.81 less. These are illustrative quotes, not current provider prices.
If Route A requires an additional €15 receiving-bank charge, it still delivers €3,468.81. Record all fees in the same final currency. If the creator wants to hold USD, compare the cost of receiving USD and converting later, but confirm that the account details, payee name, country, and provider policy are accepted before relying on the route.
Create a same-minute quote sheet
Run the comparison again for a materially different payout because fixed and percentage costs change the break-even point.
- Open only methods offered to the actual payee in the DevEx portal.
- Record gross payout, fixed fee, percentage fee, and intermediary charges.
- Capture the offered FX rate and same-minute reference rate.
- Convert every route to the same final currency and arrival date.
- Test the chosen route with a modest payout and archive the receipt.
Costs hidden by labels
Do not compare a USD balance in one route with a local-currency deposit in another. Avoid assuming another creator’s country, bank, or business account gets your terms. A payment provider fee is distinct from U.S. withholding and local tax; mixing them prevents correct reconciliation.
A fast payout is not automatically better if documentation is weak or names do not match. Do not route money through someone else’s account to reach a method that is unavailable to you. For large payments, confirm proof-of-funds requirements and intermediary deductions before submitting an irreversible DevEx request.
Decision record
Archive the portal quote, same-minute reference rate, fee schedule, selected method, submission time, and final bank receipt. Calculate the realized FX and total cost after arrival; that value, not the advertised fee, informs the next payout.
