Public vs owner Roblox analytics: the access boundary

Public data is appropriate for market discovery: current CCU, cumulative Visits, favorites, votes, creator identity, update dates, public media, and observed chart positions. It can show that a public counter or sampled curve changed. It cannot reveal a competitor’s DAU, retention, average session time, acquisition mix, payer conversion, revenue, refunds, or profit.

Use the public layer to ask a better private question

Record the Universe ID, source URL, observation time, coverage, and exact claim. Convert “the game is healthy” into a narrow question such as “did CCU remain above the prior matched-week baseline after the update?” Public evidence can justify a play-test, continued monitoring, or a request for documentation.

Owner analytics should be accessed only by the owner or a member with sufficient permissions. Use the smallest necessary scope and never request a reusable secret through chat or email. For diligence, ask for exports or a supervised read-only review of the specific retention, engagement, acquisition, and monetization windows needed for the decision. Reconcile definitions before combining figures.

When data is shared, note who authorized access and remove temporary roles or keys after the review. Evidence quality includes both metric definition and lawful access.

  1. Separate public facts from hypotheses.
  2. List the owner-only questions that remain.
  3. Request minimum access or dated exports.
  4. Log source, period, definition, and permission for every supplied dataset.

Check each metric’s provenance. Connect your game with the required permissions to analyze retention and other private metrics; public CCU does not replace them.
